My Brand New coat

I want to go back to when I was a boy and then deeper still, but first I need to go somewhere. Where am I? It is 1:07 a.m. Central Standard Time. What time is it for you? I am a boy in Bellevue. It is summer. Morning. I see the fake wooded wall clock. It is 8:40 not 9:20 like I have always remembered. Everyone else is asleep, so I thought, but now I wonder if someone was awake. I am leaving I can see that wooden door. the yellow linoleum. the torn spot. the closet. the phone with the long cord. the brass colored doorknob and locks. Not now. I am not ready. I see the console tv on the floor behind me. where am I going so early? again. I am outside. My BMX with the black pads. Why is it cold? I can see my breath and I'm wearing a coat. I remember when I lost my brand new coat - it was red - I liked that coat and was proud of it. My parents did not have much money. We probably bought it at Kmart. Somehow I think I left it at school, but why was it forever gone? Had someone stolen it? I am not wearing that coat.
